It's strange coming back home after a few years in the Navy, I'm not used to anyone using my first name anymore and it always kinda throws me

Ahh, yes. I had to get used into hearing and responding when someone calls me by my first name too. Been there, done that.

Same here! For the first time in a long time, I heard somebody call me by my nickname again. It was strange yet comforting at the same time.

Hearing my mother call me by my nickname warms my heart. It has been a long time. Feels like home indeed.

Transitioning is hard but i do love being called by my first name though at home

Comes with the territory. I still remember having this exact problem the first time I went home. Still can't get used to it, our world is just very different

I still sit up straight every time I hear my last name. I think it is already ingrained into my system

I've been in the army for 5 years and just recently got out. Being a civilian again feels like being reborn almost

It's also uncomfortable now when people ask me to do things with "please" and "thank you"

You'll get used to it. Congrats on being a civilian again. It'll take some time but you'll be good

Things will work themselves out in a few weeks. It’s all about expectations. Try to find joy in the little things in life.

You'll get used to it, what gets me is still being called sir.

I know right? I sometimes need to remind myself that I am at home. Lol

It is elementary that the development of a theory is based on completed and finished works or theories with a sufficient basis to be possible. But what were guys like Plato based on? He could only rely on what his mind told him. It must have been very difficult but at the same time, they were very brave in defending their ideas.

Let’s talk speed reading. I’m a slow reader and listened to a podcast recently on speed reading. I’m intrigued. Who here speed reads? How did you learn those skills, and what types of documents do you speed read in practice? I do mostly litigation and am thinking that speed reading would help with research but maybe not things like doc review where you need to review for both responsiveness and privilege.
