I've been a reporter for three years and I'm still stuck covering court cases and press conferences while other people who started when I did are getting to work on big investigative stories. I know I can handle more complex work, but my editors keep passing me over. How do you deal with what seems like favoritism without looking like a complainer?

First of all, I don't understand what's wrong with covering court cases. And press conferences are just part of the job, some of them are boring but some of them provide quite a bit of news. If you feel like you should be doing "big investigative stories" you'll probably have to prove yourself capable. Find some stories you want to investigate and pitch your editors. If you don't step up you won't get noticed.

You do not. Favoritism never fixes itself. You either confront your editors directly with proof you are ready for bigger assignments or you start looking at other outlets. Staying quiet just keeps you stuck while others leap ahead.

If they keep passing you over, it is not favoritism, it is a dead end. Time to look elsewhere.

Hello, I have a final panel interview coming up for a Strategic Product Consultant role at Procore (Construction SaaS). It’ll be 3 separate interviews, 30 minute each with a Team Lead, a Senior Consultant, and a Customer Success Manager.

I’ve already completed 2 interviews; 1 screening interview with a recruiter and 1 with a hiring manager.

I’m currently a PM for a General Contractor looking to pivot into tech.

Looking for advice to prepare for these final rounds of interview. Thanks!

Hi Fishes,

I was offered RSUs for the first time as part of my compensation. I think I understand the concept as such but there are a few intricacies I was looking to clarify. Could anyone let me know if my grant date is 9th nov, 2022 and vesting period is 1 year, will I get RSUs allotted at the price of stock on grant date or vest date (in this case 9th nov, 2023)? Happy to connect in DMs as well

Thank you for your time!

I love my SO but get unsure....they just went on a friends trip and came back and randomly said going on another one in two weeks. I said I wanted to spend time together so they came back next morning and said let's go away just us instead, which is awesome and I am happy BUT is it a red flag? They used to always be all about spending time together and now seems like I have to remind them to put us first in the past month. We both work hard and have kids so life is more complicated. Vent over.

One of my direct reports has asked about going part time. They currently manage special reports in a bi-weekly publication, working closely with sales, freelance writers, and an internal designer. Job duties are primarily project management and editing/proofreading. As the first read on articles, they need to have an understanding of the material (business/regulation).
