Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.
They then admittedly gave the offer to someone who was less qualified. There were other red flags throughout the job offer process that the HR team should overall be ashamed of.

Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Got messaged by a C3 . ai recruiter. Read that wlb is bad and that the interview process is absurdly long, but the Glassdoor reviews are 4.2 and can't find actual hours worked posted by anyone. How's the culture really? I'd be aiming for DS consulting, something more functional but with DS/ML concepts as my differentiator.

If your interested in the product analytics side of things I'm happy to refer. There is some python coding but I'd say the day to day is in sql. Technical hurdle isn't too high imo.
If you are on the data engineering/research science side it's going to be python all day so probably a higher hurdle.
Go for it. I love submitting folks that seem like they have the right skillset. Free money for me =]

Leetcode and learning some OOP concepts helped me drastically
Check out a book called Ace the Data Science Interview
My coding skill sets aren’t being challenged at Deloitte and no one is quaing my own code I feel like such an imposter since I’ve never had formal engineering leads and I pretty much self taught myself coding
Dont put yourself down. The data science interviews in tech are set in a very narrow approach. Try to grind some leetcode until you feel comfortable and that should get you through the interviews.
Data science requires solid understanding and knowledge of statistics and mathematics. Technology and tools are here today and gone tomorrow- they change.
Hive was kind of a big deal, yeah
What’s your education and work exp?
You need a programming course. Not python… programming. If you want to send me a code sample I’m happy to provide specific feedback- dm me
Also, read and learn this book:

Under no circumstances should you search for a pdf version of it because it’s free, easy to find, and generally safe to download (with some discernment)
Have you taken any data science courses....MIT had a bunch
I mean, to be a data scientist…you need to know data science. Not just how to code.
What type of companies also are you looking for? I would try startups or small companies that are in the growth phase. You would get a lot more freedom in the work you do but still have a managing position to QA you. I’ve worked for a couple before switching to consulting and learned more technically outside of industry than I think I will get here. I am able to learn data strategy in a formal sense, but never work with actual data now.
I learned more at the smaller companies and start ups technically

Hey man - what roles are you targeting? What firms? What’s the feedback been? Have you failed at the tech screen round or behavioral rounds or verbal tech rounds?
OP, I may be in the same boat, if you'd like to connect over DMs etc, and we can strategize about a way forward.
If you don’t know spark, I suggest learning and getting badges/certified. Databricks offers lots of material and courses.
Is this in demand?
