I constantly ask for high visibility projects and deals, especially ones I anticipate will have executive visibility. Leadership in other departments will typically be dealing with leadership in your department. Do a good job, they will talk positively about you with your leadership.
For an org like you describe, if you’re already doing the right things, then it’s really about time and luck. There just aren’t enough high-visibility projects to go around, especially if you’re silo’d in a big org. I also think it’s harder to gain visibility on product than commercial, because you’re often the last person to sign off on a deal as the commercial lawyer, meaning the “win” is immediate and usually gets communicated by you or with reference to you. Execs love blasting out news of a big deal that just closed. Just keep doing what you’re doing. Or consider changing roles/companies to something smaller, where you have a bigger impact.
Need to know more about your company and legal team dynamics. I assume it’s a big org? But in general, I’d say being visible isn’t about being loud. It’s about volunteering, being proactive, showing up for events, and trying to take the reins (and crush) on projects with high importance to the company. What’s your role?
Big org. Everyone is siloed. Product work.
You need to do the internal “projects” and “goals” stuff - things that not directly related to the business. That would be things like creating a new process or fallback guides, etc.
