Daily Harvest? Or just go back to takeout sounds like the easiest thing to do
I’ve been using Home Chef for almost a year. Definitely has the convenience factor and the meals have been really good. Usually 2 out of the 3 meals I choose for the week are calorie and carb conscious. I haven’t been using it to lose weight and I eat relatively healthy anyway but I definitely have not had a weight gain since starting it.

When I use meal prep services, I make an effort to choose the lower cal options OR I stretch the choices I get a bit by adding more veggies (usually kale) and make the two-portion-meals into three portions. I also try to make substitutions to bring the calorie count down (plain Greek yogurt instead of sour cream; leave out the nuts from the dish; Pam instead of a bunch of olive oil, etc). I think those boxes can be great but they have to be tweaked or else you’re eating 800-1000 calories for dinner without realizing it.

Blue Apron’s Weight Watcher meals are rather nice, too.
Hello fresh has some really high calorie meals. They’re delicious but can make you put on weight. Try to opt for low cal meals.
I use fresh local meal prep delivery companies. So much better than these subscription services and much cheaper than take out! Opt for low cal options.
Also if you actually log in your hello fresh meals into my fitness pal and calculate calories, it’s crazy. You won’t even realize how much you have eaten.
Green chef is healthier!
Sunbasket is good too!
Big fan of hungryroot. Been able to stick with it consistently and haven’t gotten bored.
In my experience, HelloFresh meals tend to be VERY high calorie (like 700-800 for one meal). But Everyone’s needs are different. Icon Meals have pretty good calorie/macro comps and there are a lot of different options.
That being said, if you’re looking to weight eating Hello Fresh, you’d just have to plan the rest of your meals around it to meet your caloric needs for weight loss.

I just try to meal prep on weekends. I’ll make a massive portion of grilled veggies for the week and then things like grilled chicken or salmon, sometimes shrimp. I also do a lot of soups in the crockpot.
Yeah hello fresh have pretty much all high calorie meals lol. You could try ones that are like low carb low cal etc
Thistle!
Sakara is awesome but really expensive if you’re doing 5 days of 3 meals (also, their concept might be a bit too granola/new age-y but the food is just great). Sunbasket is what I currently do (the drawback for me being that there are no too many “fresh and ready” (i.e., just reheat) options but it looks like you are looking for meal kits anyway; I like that I can order some of my groceries through them too and I discovered Honey Mama’s delicious cacao bars through them). Hungryroot was okay too. Hello Fresh was fine but too much chopping and too much cheese and butter for a single person. Btw, being tailored to a single person is another reason I really like Sakara.
Try gobble. They have meals that you can choose to be low calorie. You can also do substitutes. With hello fresh you have to make sure you are still watching your calorie and carb intake. Opt for lower meals in those areas. But you want to typically opt for high veggies and protein.
Wow, thanks everyone! Lots of good recs to choose from!
I choose my own recipes and use grocery delivery. I plan every Sunday.
I’m trying to order only Hello Fresh recipes with a feather symbol ... and never order the burger meals. Same with Sunbasket and Blue Apron (which has Weight Watchers compatible options).
Second Hungryroot. Have tried three different subscription services and theirs are the healthiest + require the least amount of time to make. I feel like I’m eating much healthier.

I use Home Chef. I find that sometimes they include way more of the unhealthy ingredients than necessary. I usually use half the cheese, cream cheese, crispy toppings etc. and find the dish tastes totally normal and it’s healthier. Also, sometimes I look ahead and go buy more of the veggie that comes with the meal. Then I cook more veggies and have veggies on half my plate and eat half the meat. This is also a great way to stretch out the meals and you get more bang for your buck!
