I've been working as an insurance agent for a few years now and I'm starting to feel a little stagnant in my career. I'm looking to advance my position and increase my earning potential. I've heard that certifications can be a great way to do this, but I'm not sure which ones would be the most beneficial. I'm hoping to find a certification that I can complete in six months or less. Any suggestions?

Certifications are no guarantee to a better job, but they can give you some credibility. Good ones to obtain would be Certified Insurance Service Representative, Associate in General Insurance, or Certified Insurance Counselor. I think any of those could be completed within six months. Of course, it depends on whether you want to specialize in a specific area, and what your own interests and ambitions might be.

You might want to look into the Associate in General Insurance (AINS) designation. It's a quick and affordable certification that could help you stand out.

My suggestion would be to figure out where you want to be. If it is something a little different, making sure you have proper licences can help set you apart and move you into that position. Just really depends on how exactly you want to advance.

OP I have honestly found that in this industry certs don't really help you to get a better job. Have you talked to your boss about potential for moving up or career advancement? I would start there.

Hi All - I’m at a firm that has some infrequent in-house training but not enough to help me develop skills to eventually become a trial lawyer. I know cases rarely make it to trial anymore, but I’d like to develop my skills as much as possible to position myself well when they do. Does anyone have any mock trial programs they’ve participated in outside of their firms that they would recommend?
