I've had instances where I could quickly lose composure handling very difficult situations. Most people dealing with the police are probably having the worst day of their life! What do you do to maintain composure?

Honestly, I am on anti-depressants and anxiety meds. Im not ashamed to admit it. Also saw a therapist for a long time to help deal with my job and everyday stressors. It's tough working in the prison system.

I’m sorry you’re going through that. You have to realize that especially today, there’s only so much you can do. Inmates will always try to intimidate you, stick to your guns when it comes to your decisions. Once an inmate thinks he can manipulate you, the rest will follow. Fair, firm and consistent was a motto that always worked for me. Don’t let anyone put their hands on you, no one goes to work to be assaulted. Good luck.

Stay on task, focus on what needs to be done vs getting caught up in what's going on. Your a leader, you need to lead

Depending on the situation obviously, sometimes it’s best to step back and get yourself together before continuing further into that situation. If you’re not alone, you’ll have a team around you willing to step up and take the reigns for a minute. You are a leader and I’m sure if you’re worked up that will cause others to get worked up, but that doesn’t mean you’re wrong for getting worked up. Just breathe collect your thoughts and carry on. I’d love to speak more about this. Stay safe out there

This is such a wonderful insight. At first, I thought I am just overreacting and not cut for the job. Thanks for this!

I shut off my feelings. I'm all brain. I Pay attention to why the person is losing their composure. Some are in a jail for the first time. My focus is on helping the situation and diffusing, not on how I feel. I guess my answer is, I get totally immersed in finding the solution. I distract myself from feelings. I hope this is useful insight...

We could be confronted by different situations. Each one may demand different reactions and emotions. So I guess it really depends. You have to assess the situation first.

I would really appreciated if someone can help point me to that direction.

My company has given me a promotion without a raise. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Little background:

Asked for promotion in late 2020 - was required to skill up, after skilling up, asked again about when I'll be promoted and was denied because there is no "vacancy" for it.
Got my annual hike in Oct 2021 without the promotion. I asked HR last week again and got a random announcement email saying my promotion is w.e.f Oct 2021. ( and no raise for the newly promoted role).
