I’m depressed and anxious no matter what I do. Medication, therapy, exercise, and what I fill my life with outside of work keep my head above water. If you’re having these feelings on top of recurring seething hatred, might be worth examining deeper into yourself to find happiness rather than your job.
I write screenplays, do stand up, perform improv comedy. I still enjoy a lot of my work but it’s really a grind, especially when starting out. Some agencies suck harder to work at. Some projects make you wanna pull your hair out. That might not change if you were an author or a screenwriter. My first internship felt like a dream job but my first full time gig was kind of torturous and I got laid off for a lot of BS. So I don’t even have a job currently besides some freelance temporarily, which I’m certain will cause a lot of financial stress when it’s over.
Same with me, I've stuck through more at my current gig than any other because of the market. I've been coping with finding ways to grow where I'm at and networking with other teams within the company to work on projects that align with what I want. In the meantime, I've been working on upskilling and networking generally to prep for a freelance jump. Once there's absolutely no way to grow that aligns with my goals or the company lays me off (whichever comes first) then it's time to jump but by then I've already built the foundation for a soft landing.
Hey hey wanna chat? I’m went through the same thing right now as jr/mid
Work is a means to your life ends. Quitting out right is not a good option. Yes, the job search market is rough right now. Stick to your job with getting the work to an optimal level. Excel when and where you can, it may turn some of your work detractors into supporters. Make them think you love it there. That's the best place to start. Have time for yourself when not at work. It's okay to feel this way do not share your true feelings with your co-workers, maintain that steady income. Quietly look out for better offers.
first of all -- bravo to you for getting out once you start getting the ick. I always wait a year or two longer than I should. If you feel that strongly, use the energy to start looking.
