I’ve received quite a bit of push back from a few clients related to the electronic payment mandate. They have their reasons (not saying they are good). Has it officially gone into effect yet? I know it has for individuals but wasn’t sure on trusts.

I think they just need more time. Can they pay via paper voucher for Q4?

Have them call the government to complain about it.

Doesn’t answer the question. Someone in our office said it’s just for individuals and trusts haven’t been addressed but I can’t find that to be true.

I'm not familiar with the mandate. Out of curiosity can you give me the abbreviated version?

Ah, thanks

Government doesnt have ability to mandate this yet so it is not effective though strongly encouraged for 4q estimates. Their goal is to implement by 2026 filing season.

The IRS is still accepting checks. The mandate is more geared towards the treasury issuing payments.

They are still accepting checks for now, but the mandate is very much also geared toward how payments are made to treasury.

If/when they get something like directpay available for trusts/estates they will probably stop accepting paper checks (same way they do now with corporations)

The IRS is still accepting checks. The mandate is more geared towards the treasury issuing payments.
