If you switch back from MBB within a year and go back to the same level at B4, it will look like you failed at MBB. If you go back to a higher level at B4, even within a year, it will look like you were a high performer they wanted back. My recommendation: stay at MBB long enough to either:
A) get a new project that could change your opinion of your MBB job,
B) return to B4 at a higher level than you exited, or
C) secure a good industry exit

And that’s why I chose to stay in B4 when I had the chance to go to MBB. WLB is important to me and I plan to keep my career in consulting.
This is the confirmation bias I needed to read today. I want to stay in consulting and I’m convinced the only way to hack it is to stay at D. I’ve got a good thing going here.
How long have you been there? Give it a year. Not all cases are equal.

Ummm just don’t take the PMO projects lol. If you’re at M, I can help with tips on how to navigate this
McKinsey implementation?

Confirm which part is false?
I'll switch with you. Looking to go to mbb from b4.
Who cares about optics? As long as you're not prepping for some high octane exit, I say go back to the job you know you enjoy.
BCG1 is planning to exit to F1 respect ✊
Can you please explain why? I’m just starting in the field (college hire). I am at the phase in life where I am willing to sacrifice WLB for MBB. Aren’t you excited by the new exit opportunities, clients, and the MBB lifestyle? Thanks :)
^ Now with that response... I’m smh
Good advice M3.
OP your question (imo) implies a static view of your role. Things move quickly and there are many ways to learn and contribute beyond the basic role description (at M anyway, I have no BB experience).
I kinda feel you should be asking ‘how do I amp up my learning and experience/ growth here (while managing wlb)?’ That should have been part of why you jumped, no?
