Job offer A: IT Network Engineer at a Fortune 500. Deals with more legacy stuff like Cisco, Nokia etc. 2.5 weeks of PTO. Seems like company culture is definitely more refined/older. Position is on call once a month. 3 days WFH 2 days office

Job Offer B: Business analyst at a rapidly growing SaaS company. Unlimited PTO, no on call, glass door people all comment on how great the culture is. 3/4 days WFH rest in office.

Which would you take, I’m leaning towards A because I’m more interested in

If you favor A, why seeking contradictory pov? Go with your heart, so many people here are not better than you to provide any meaningful advices.

Wondering if my thinking is correct, im missing something, my own intuition with jobs has been poor in the past

Do what your heart desires, my personal thoughts - b makes more sense but the only thing that matters is what are are you solving for?

1) subject matter interests? You're leaning A
2) work life balance (hours/city/personal life situation/etc)? Seems like B
3) company culture? Seems like B
4) career growth? N/A
5) compensation (salary, bonus structure, shares, etc?) N/A
6) leadership/stability/job security? N/A

Etc etc, you can keep dimensionalizing this so figure out how the opportunities align and then rank order with ones matter the most

IT stuff but both look appealing. Any insight into which would offer a better career trajectory? I would love to become a cloud infrastructure architect as a “goal” that’s why I also am leaning towards A. Even tho on paper B seems like the winner I don’t really wanna be taking meeting notes, user requirements etc. definitely more of a technical person.

I would avoid working with legacy technology. It can be a career detriment more than people realize. Always think about career trajectory and the next job.

Experience with Cisco will not attract employers when you are looking at the next job. At best, maybe you could get a lateral move job. I know many successful Cisco CCIE engineers that are now semi-retired, because the glory days are in the past.

The range of current and future pay for IT Engineers are huge. That is because companies are willing to pay extra for new in demand skills.

Look at what new data centers and new infra builds in businesses are using. That's what you want to work with.

Having a stronger demand in your skill set will affect your paycheck, bonuses, how easily you can get new hardware and licenses for your project (instead of just keeping old stuff running), how quickly you get promoted and new people added to your team, how much influence you will have in your projects, how worried your employer will be to lose you, and therefore your work life balance.

Ok
That sounds better
Between those two choices, I would go with that since it is more up to date with tech.

They both have their benefits and company match.

The 90k is also a new team so a lot of growth opportunity while the 72k is well established team. If this matters at all.

Follow up post to my last post…My husband was laid off from the company where I also work. I am feeling really isolated / depressed about working and moving forward. I’m also getting to a stage where I’m really sad that people haven’t reached out to either my husband or myself to send well wishes or provide support. It’s like they don’t know what to say or I make them feel awkward so they don’t bother…I’m trying to focus on a few that have been supportive but it’s hard…Any words of advice? 😞
