I agree with you. But now that I’m thinking about it, all rules are out the window in 2018 tbh. Recruiters comonly ghost candidates. Evenvery senior ones that are further along in the process. Layoffs happen left and right nowadays, right before holidays at the end of Q4. I don’t agree with it, but I don’t think anyone owes anything to agencies today. Well, the agencies that are part of holding companies, that is. Ghost ‘em. Fuck em
I'm antisocial and I still did it in person.
Stop hiring sloppy juniors.
Or have a clearer path for them to resign. I did it in person at my last agency, but my current agency, I have 0 idea who I would even talk to about it, cause there’s no clear path. So an email it will be.
My plan is to walk out and never look back
Not sure about the algorithm used but on my feed, this post is immediately followed by another saying “how do I resign?” Most of the responses said “Formal letter/email giving 2 weeks notice.” Little mention of the all-important conversation with your boss first.
To be clear, I agree with the importance of the conversation. Just enjoying the irony. 😜
I did that as a junior in person and was black balled still moving forward. Just don't black ball them. Either way. It's their livelihood. And they are just trying their best.
Maybe..they couldn’t get on your busy calendar in time. I’ve seen that happen and makes for a good reason to reach out to them rather than criticize. So many people not getting any time with their bosses these days and bosses who act like they’re a gift if you get a minute. Think about it.
Ha cannot imagine any junior I’ve worked with quitting via text.
Is it a massive agency with many layers?
Are you a massive VP with an intimidating stare?
Or maybe, they’re misinterpreting the resignation email advice in “How do I quit?” fishbowl thread below yours.
Wow. Seriously? What a time to be alive...
Vice President: you are absolutely right. I’m not going to win the moral, ethical or professional argument on ghosting an agency/team and not properly resigning. I personally wouldn’t do it. I’m not wired that way. But if you’re a junior talent, it’s hard to argue that agencies, and senior management, particularly care that much about them as employees. Not all companies, but big creative agencies within holding companies, when they’re not doing well they become desperate. And when they become desperate they sometimes act irresponsibly. When I hear horror stories about how these companies handle and treat their employees, supppsedly the “most important assets that go up and down in our elevator every day.” It makes my blood boil. Especially how hard they sometimes work people. They almost don’t deserve any respect. [end rant]
To be fair. If you haven’t talked to the junior talent in a few weeks it seems appropriate. But yes, it’s still unacceptable even in that situation
VP Strat Director: that’s all true, but at the end of the day personal relationships are so key. Your explanation feels like a cop out to me. It feels disrespectful and very strange to have spent so much time training and developing someone and believing in them only for them to just walk out with out a conversation.
Art Director 3: yep that is true too!
