Always say for people who are new to investing (same for me) that the rule of thumb is to invest however much money you are comfortable losing.
An amount where if you lost all of it, it would just be a lesson in investing. Not “omfg there goes my life savings”.
TL:DR - when new to investing, treat the money you put in as you would disposable income
One challenge with Robinhood and small amounts is that you have to buy full shares. For GOOGL/AMZN that's well over a thousand dollars now.
That being said, pick an industry you know and diversify as much as you can, along as many dimensions as possible (capitalization, dividends, countries, etc)
Also, go for the long term. You can try to play the short term (closer to mid term on Robinhood because you can't really day trade without $25K invested). Long term also helps you avoid panicking and selling when you shouldn't.
That's my .02 at least (which could soon be .03 bc of good Robinhood investments 💰)
Google “quant investing”. Depending on your personality, you’ll proceed to dive into a magical rabbit hole. Otherwise you’ll move on rather quickly. Enjoy!
Robinhood now wants a scan of my license and social security card. I can understand them asking for SSN. Why a copy of my card ? 😏
Start with technology sector. Don’t panic and sell in aug- sep. Those two months are historically the worst performing months of the year
C1- Can you usually buy partial shares?
P1: from brokerage firms, often yes. That's part of what Robinhood eliminates along with its fees
They didn't ask me for that. Odd...
