This is true outside of work also. In general I laugh a lot less than I used to and I hate it.
True! It's harder to meet people with a shared sense of humor, but also maybe too that life is heavier, and less newsy as we age? I go to parties w couples my age, and it's a lot of small talk. Bo-ring.
You'll also notice that you are the only one taking risks. The modern-day mentality is "If I can prove what's wrong with the concept or poke a hole in it, I have job security." Versus the old days of, if you're not adding to it, or making it better, you're of no value. Different era for sure. And agreed. Nobody cracking jokes or even doing little things like having a few beers while concepting ideas. Too many people wanting to check out at 5:01 to boost their own brand on social media and gain a bigger following.
I haven’t. But will check it out. Never worked at a big shop in NY. But I did in several other large market shops (and small creative regional ones). Either way the thinking was the same. If you’re not laughing or feeling something with the work or your co-workers at least once a week, you were doing something wrong. So many people “talking” about emotions these days. Yet so few actually expressing them.
Well, maybe you can be the one to bring change to the place.
A boring job is still a job, I guess.
I hate all of this but especially take issue with reading the deck. WTF? Nobody needs a deck read to them. They need the storytelling and colour commentary that makes the point of tte deck and heightens its impact. One of my pet peeves is attending any meeting where I’ve gotta listen to someone read a deck aloud slower than I can read it myself, without adding anything to the content.
