I doubt your partner wants you to tell the client no. More like do the tactical tasks, keep your role in them limited, and then keep a look out for bigger opportunities and ideas.
I agree with this. If your partner didn’t explicitly say to tell the client no to THIS request, you are likely misreading the situation.
Follow up with the partner and ask specifically. He/she is human too. Could be a miscommunication. If you need a reason for the message or call - just say you want to be responsive to the client but want to be wary of scope bleed, budget, or something similar that you think will be music to his/her ears
Haha fair enough. Fwiw that’s frustrating to deal with. Best you can do in my opinion is still deliver on the deliverable but try to keep it focused on key or material items. Keep the option to drill down later (which also gives you a chance to run it by your team again if you’re spending too many calories)
You need someone to delegate to.
Client wants deliverables ... not big picture fluff .. do that in the evening.
As long as its not huge time consuming stuff and you have bandwidth and it will make the client happy I would do it. Will be a lot better for you if you can provide real value and the client loves you for it. If it’s outside the scope of the project altogether, then I’d try to get the manager or partner to communicate that.
