K&E to Nashville instead of Atlanta? I know expansion in the south is a dominant strategy but that seems like an odd pick.

K&E has a "Charlotte" office which is just like 3 attorneys stolen from Dechert (i think). Maybe its a similar situation in Nashville-- the lawyers they want are already there?

like

No im aware but my point is it could have been a strategic acquisition of Nashville based lawyers that were there rather than a decision to expand into Nashville specifically

Isn’t this just a play to allow people who want to live in Nashville an opportunity to do so while working on National/Global clients? I presume approximately 0% of the office’s work will be from local clients.

Only semi related but I wonder when/if Latham will go into the deeper south markets. May still feel burned by the Austin office but they are also heading into Dallas.

like

What happened to LW in Austin?

They’ve sniffed around Atlanta. Could be next.

Hope they open up one in Charlotte for real. I’d jump lol

Because I’m always open to better opportunities? And my firm is currently black box for bonus so it would be nice to just know where I stand from a financial standpoint

My remit quadrupled+ in a recent re-org with no increase in pay/promotion, my new director is new to the company and was zero help, and I was passed over for recent promotion during the comp cycle. The new director essentially began shutting me down any time I ask for clarity in my career progression. Now they have taken credit for the project I’ve been building over the past year+ without giving me props whatsoever to higher ups. What is the best plan of action here?

Did your firm’s leadership send a message re the horrific shooting? Before I lateraled we always got emails from leadership, which IMO were very humanizing and appreciated. New firm leadership seems to just avoid — probably to not appear politically involved. Your thoughts on these types of current events and firm acknowledgment?

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

Considering a jump from Chicago to New York. I truly love living in Chicago and how far this salary gets me but I definitely want to try to make it in New York.

The only problem is my significant other has a lot of negative opinions about New York. I ultimately want to return to DC but I feel like a few good years in New York would be really good for me. In terms of a place to live, where in Manhattan can I find a place that's similar to River North in Chicago?

Lateral that just went through first bonus season with the firm. Not in a major market but workload is comparable to major markets. Surprised at how low the bonus was. I received solid reviews and my annualized hours were well above the requirement. Should I approach anyone about this? Wondering if it is worth addressing or if it could compromise my standing. Thanks in advance!
