Although Amazon has instituted a hiring freeze and layoffs are probably on their way, I went through the loop for a security engineer position at AWS. Before I attended the final interviews, Amazon placed the hiring freeze and called me to ask if I wanted to go ahead or cancel my application. I decided do go ahead Right now I'm waiting for their response and the position I applied to changed from "under consideration" to "no longer under consideration". Thoughts?

Silent layoffs are everywhere.. And, u knoq what gives you the shield? It's called "Connections" and "Corporate bootlicking", and of course, good performance.. You should project, showcase, sugarcoat that you arw doing something.. No work assigned or less work assigned are just excuses...
Sadly I’m not good at this projection and showcasing … as I’m an introvert this is a challenge even though I work hard
yeah a lot silently
Now is the time to prepare. Become a critical resource with strong technical and functional skills. Create your own visibility and build genuine rapport with stakeholders and business teams. Be vocal, keep learning, and continuously bring new value. “Just do the work and get paid” no longer works. Build real relationships with managers, not flattery. Focus on AI tools, bots, demos, and new ideas to make your impact visible. It’s a tough game—play smart, don’t panic. Build skills; even if impacted, opportunities exist outside.
In severance pay , are they considering basic pay only or complete month salary ?
From what I’ve seen, there appears to be a form of silent layoff. A colleague at E4 (cable)was marked off-track and had an HR discussion the same day. They were given three options:
Enter PIP and demonstrate improvement
Take a 4-month severance and exit immediately
Remain in the system for ~2 months (informal) and then serve a 2-month notice period
This individual has been a good performer but didn’t have enough work assigned and didn’t receive any prior heads-up during quarterly reviews also.
I think org don't want to do it open layoffs as the one they did with cyber security a few months back as it created ripples.
This happened in GEE and DevX org
