Pros and cons of working on an auto brand?
Hi fishes! I volunteer with The Art of Good, a creative collective helping small businesses affected by the pandemic. They are seeking a little help from a media professional. Need an SEM POV for a small business looking to change their name and relaunch their brand. This is non-paid. More about giving back while in-between gigs. :) If you can help out or want to learn more, please reach out to me via LinkedIN. Thank you!! www.linkedin.com/in/karenkohn/

Well, I’m 52, so...
I think it’s more people are upset about how much they work and pretend that if they were paid more, it would be worth it.
I don’t think you’re underpaid. I think you’re being worked too hard with people pushed into management positions without actually knowing how to manage people.
At the end of the day, this is an industry that people with high school degrees can and do get jobs in.
Plenty of people in this industry make 6 figures. I make more money in my entry level job than my mom who is a nurse who works way more than I do.
There are far more things wrong with this industry than the pay.
I’ll ask here what I asked to a comment above, are agencies just settling for creatives without talent or degrees because they can pay them a whole lot less so they can churn out sub par work faster?
The hours in the industry are too long but generally the pay for the experience is great. Compared to some pretty brutal professions (teaching, nursing) most kids in their 20s will be making north of 80k after 4-5 years experience.

SD1, I’m part of a small support department, and the salaries there don’t compare to those in accounts or creative. Since there are few of us, there are also few positions at other agencies as well. So leaving Ogilvy would likely mean leaving the industry.
I’ve been doing this for over twenty years but raises don’t happen very often around here. And again I don’t think paying support staff well is a priority for agencies.
I just sort of roll my eyes whenever I hear someone say the money is great in advertising. It is for some but not all.
Do you work at FCB?
Unfortunately this comes down to supply and demand. Creative talent (particularly junior levels <5 years) has a very high supply.
However, if you can move into UX, then there is much higher demand and less supply. The work though is less fulfilling IMO (let’s design 10 error screens this month!).
Also, in an agency model, the agency leadership takes all the upside (bonuses) and the ICs take all the downside (layoffs).
Mmmm is there a high supply of junior level creatives OR are agencies settling for sub-par creatives because they can pay them a whole lot less. Correlating to all the sub-par work that agencies have been churning out the last few years...........
Is 10k grossly underpaid? Ready for a promotion and salary bump.
I know. I’ve had that thought many times. I’m comfortable and I have time for my life and passions. Also reevaluating what work and life for me will look like post Covid. Much to consider.
I think the amount of money we make in advertising is insane compared to more important fields of work. No one at a senior level is underpaid unless they are paid less than their peers for performing similar work.
