Let's talk about the overlords and not your immediate supervisor. For me, there have been a lot of changes in "leadership" over the years - some good and some bad.

I never really paid much attention to who my boss' boss' bosses are (at any of my jobs), because I'm just a cog in the wheel. It made me wonder, does that really matter? Is it a deal breaker for accepting a position if you don't (or can't) respect the top boss?

If a new one came in, I do like a 10 minute dive to see what company they came from. It’s just to see what culture they worked at and anticipate if they expect similar.

Maybe not a deal breaker, but it has a huge impact on work environment and life out outside of work. Our department head’s, one level below CTO, tone and actions is what makes me have the time to OE. I work for a US company and our entire department gets additional days off to celebrate other nationalities holidays and we get an additional half day off before US holidays. We don’t have unlimited PTO.

Literally shocked that we got a day off to celebrate Diwali when I first was hired. For those on our team that actually celebrates it, they can get the full 5 days off. Our dept. head is a Caucasian, I’m always impressed to see others care and learn about others cultures.

Anyone have multiple FT jobs? I'm looking about to land a new primary FT job, as my current job is very very slow, doesn't really have any projects for me, and could end at any time (with a 30 day notice).
Where there any legal issues? (The two companies area in different industries so no competition). How did you manage both? The new company knows I'm still employed, should I quit the first or keep it as long as I can manage both? Any bad vibes or feelings of unprofessionalism? TIA

I really want to get a second job but I am scared of losing my current one. Both companies are in same field, although not direct competitors so I know it’s technically “not allowed” however, this is the only way for me to get that $$ since I am not paid all that well.

Of course I won’t tell a single friend/coworker. Only my partner. And I don’t post work stuff on social media.

Realistically what are the ODDS of being caught? Is there a legal/HR process with which they could find out??

The first rule of overemployment is dont talk about overemployment to anyone outside your house. :). Second: always protect the main job. Third: As the main job always has the priority, the Second and third jobs must preferably be contract gigs with not too many meetings everyday. Remember: another day, another dollar.
