Man I wish I saw more like this on here….
Ain’t no shame in ambition, but the tone deafness is brutal sometimes
Lmao. So true

Inspiring! More stories like this please. And less about worrying about making less than their two consulting MD parents 🤔
For anyone trying to follow the same path, I recommend getting a temp or admin job at a small company that uses in demand technology like salesforce, workday, servicenow etc and then meet with the IT or business directors that use that tech. Volunteer to do any type of work with the systems and learn as much as you can. Even if you don’t do much, if you can speak to how the system works, you can leverage that for an entry level analyst role at the big 4 / ACN or any professional services firm. That is exactly how I started as a temp making $15 an hour and after getting into a few consulting firms ending with D, I jumped to AMZN and am now making $350k at 32 as a principal product manager. All just because I volunteered to take on tasks so that I could learn the ERP software then leverage that rare experience over and over.
Amazing!
Congrats!
Well done OP! 👊
Congrats OP. Mind sharing how did you bounce back?
Bounce back from what? Sounds like OP never made excuses and never felt sorry for himself/herself.
Pro
Congrsts op; take in the moment
Congrats ... “started from the bottom”...
Took me until after my bachelors that I got my shit together. Had to pull an extra round with 2 masters but it was worth it. Made an insane professional transition and I’m finally feeling like I’m living my best professional self.
Are you me OP? Similar story and salary, except ended up down the Mil route and no degree yet (working on it!)
Good stuff though, gotta keep that chin up and keep on going!
American is the land of opportunity. Here life is what you make it. CONGRATULATIONS 👏, GOOD FOR YOU ON YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
Very true. I'm from indo-pak background, I would've never been able to do this there. America is/can be amazing.
Congrats- I have a very similar story. I just graduated with my AS (first gen) and still working towards my Bachelor’s and making just under six figures. I am grateful every single day that I live comfortably and can support myself since I expect nothing from my family (not a dig at them, I just know it’s not their responsibility/they don’t have much). I started 5 years ago at BAH at 40k because I knew I just had to get my foot in the door and could go from there. Best decision I ever made and grateful I was taken a chance on. (To my small credit, I did persist for 8 months to be hired and wouldn’t let it go. To quote the character Jack Dawson from Titanic, “when you got nothin’ you got nothin’ to lose.” I had three interviews spaced months apart after email follow ups on my end, I sent handwritten thank you cards, consistently emailed the recruiter asking if there was anything further I could do to assist in the decision, etc. - This was all while I was working at a bank during the day and waiting tables at night.) The best advice moving forward is: pay it forward in anyway you can reasonably do. The best investments I’ve ever made to ensure my continued financial success were those that had nothing to do with money exclusively; were solely dependent on how I took care of myself by furthering education and “building my house” while looking for the ways I could subsequently help others.
Well done! Congrats 👏
Congrats! I also went back to school and ended in consulting after a years in a total different industry.
That’s awesome!! Somewhat similar - was in a shitty personal situation in college which left me graduating with a ~2.7 GPA in undergrad with no drive and no idea what to do as a career, fast forward to now super happy in the field I’m in and what I make and using my current ambition to continue to drive me forward! It’s not easy but it’s definitely possible to turn things around!
Are you me?
Congrats OP👍🏼👍🏼 it’s amazing what you have achieved despite obstacles. Life will bring you more and more. Keep at it !
Limped out of high school no degree make 200k in tech.
My education started in a second chance program in Job Corps - which led me to an Associates program, transfer to a BS, MS, MBA, and PhD.
I rarely tell the beginning of my story because people look down on alternative education, especially in consulting. But I would not be in the place I’m in today without it.
Please share that more often. Anyone who looks down in that has issues of their own. You’re to be admired.
Similar story without the online bachelor's and less pay but I feel like I'm living a dream coming from where I came from. Bad home life, highschool drop out, working from 15 years old, GED at 20, college while working 50+ hours a week, AS at 25, started at 50k and now at 115k in 6 years.
Nice!!
Dude/dudette, good job!
I just turned 40 and have lived through much the same. Did graduate from HS but didn’t get any grades for college. Took a floor job in a factory. Had kids in my mid twenties. Started online bachelors. My “baby moma” left me for a more successful duchebag. Transferred into engineering consulting after my bachelors was done and then later into EY. Anything is possible possible as long as you are ready to work for it.
Congrats OP 👏👏
