Life is interesting. Had a messed up childhood, <2.0 GPA in high school, dropped out of community college, finagled my way into IT consulting starting at $50k, worked up to $120k, completed my bachelors online last year, just started a Sr. Cons in Strategy role for $160k.

Don’t you need a college degree to be hired into Deloitte?

I don't have college degree but I have a 9.2 year's experience in analyst position

Congrats on the amazing achievement! Inquisitive - how did you “finagle” your way into IT Consulting? Asking for a friend who had some personal situations lost multiple years due to not being able to work full time for 5 years straight after college, and picked up retails and is now stuck in a low paid dead end job.

like

There are numerous IT consulting jobs that don't require a degree, have your friend look into AWS or Azure or even Salesforce type certifications, they are in high demand these days. You just need that first "real" job in the IT space to get out of retail. My first one was a contract role I literally found on Craigslist, helping a law firm do data migration for $17/hr, (more like data entry and moving server racks around, but migration sounds much smarter on the resume) That experience and a referral led to me getting my foot into first consulting firm where my $50k analyst salary felt like the promise land. That's when the real climbing started.

Great story!
I came from divorced parents, below poverty level, but didn’t feel poor. First in family to go to college. Weird career path but ended up working in nonprofit but also consulting on my own. Total compensation about $200K. Three kids through college with no debt, and provided a great home with an amazing wife.

Similar path. Flunked out of college like for times between 18-25. Bartender living with parents until 29, went back to undergrad at 30, went to MBA immediately after.

Now making 180k with a wife and lots of little kids. Without changing my direction I’d be a real life Jeffrey Lebowski, and not the millionaire.

Hey all! I went through the interviewing process with a company and we had a verbal agreement on X amount of salary per year. They liked me and extended an offer but the offer was for $15K less than what we agreed bc that’s what HR approved for. I was desperate so I took it. Accepting this offer meant that I had to relocate to the other side of the country. Omw that was 2500 miles, I received a call that they rescinded the offer. Is there anything legal that I can do to sue them?

I have friends that have back office positions but never received an offer letter & their company still doesn’t use them now. Has anyone given notice & started a new position without an offer letter? Do international companies provide something else in lieu of a formal offer letter? I know offer letters aren’t legally binding anyhow, but seems they’d provide something. (International = Canada)

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.
