The pay for managers is even more extraordinary. The nearly 2,500 people who work in New York subway administration make, on average, $280,000 in salary, overtime and benefits. The average elsewhere is $115,000.

As an incredibly liberal person, this pisses me off. Part of being liberal is working for good governance and this is a demonstrative example of politicians doing what's best for their political supporters at the expense of that principle. If Cuomo thinks he has a shot of winning the 2020 primary, he's clearly deluded.
The median salary in nyc is 70k ... but the point i was making is that this is a substantial job. The nyc subway has 5,655,755 riders on average on a weekday.... tell me again how many people rely on your work.
No different than cops and firemen, well except they are risking their life on a daily basis, so I always think they should get whatever they can, but for a subway admin that's f'n messed up plus the NYC subway system is a cesspool

Actually, your point was that 280K in NYC = middle class. That is an idiotic statement. I’m guessing you grew up wealthy
Managing subway is not easy. But for the amount of money they are getting paid, its safe to say they are way over compensated. Maybe we can save some money on the wages and actually put that into the infrastructure. And lets better manage the riders. Dont let people get in for free and dont let people throw garage in the tracks or in the subway car. You can do that by hiring more minimum wage employees to maintain subway cleanliness.

That’s like total compensation.. not just gross salary. But still they are quite good and likely more than many PPEDs.
Wow thats crazy. I live in nyc and agree the subways are more and more delayed and unreliable.

Is it because they get paid more overtime than most consultants do? Most consultants don’t get as much overtime pay as they actually work
S& always has to make it a personal thing about how much money I make (more than you) and how I grew up (poor- but what difference does that make)... the point is - it’s a substantial job which impacts a ton of people, which I️ believe should command a good salary (opinion- we are all entitled to one) and the salary doesn’t go super far in NYC for a family (fact) especially as compared to the averages in other metros which have much lower COL.
@PwC1 - To address your earlier question: I’m currently working security for a client that services billions of transactions a day - I don’t care what you do for the subway - that’s too much money for a mgr.
