Is the main advantage of applying to mba early simply to literally start making more sooner? Is it easier when you’re younger? I’m fortunately not in a rush to apply and I think next year my app will be stronger, my income is not gonna be much higher post mba, I’ll have another promotion, better recs, and less debt to take on. What am I missing?
Any good MBA consulting agency’s to call for an insightful evaluation and get a sense of your standing as a part of the application process?
Any tips to prep and pass PMP in one shot other than buying the book and reading every page of that?
Oliver Wyman how is the MBA sponsorship process like? Any advice? I’ll be coming in as a senior consultant within CCG! TYIA!
Is it worth getting PMP, Scrum, CSCP?
Anyone going to the National Black MBA conference this year in Chicago? It’s in September.
Hi Everyone! I’m torn between which HR certification to pursue (SHRM-SCP or SPHR). Which one would you recommend and why?
For MBA apps will it hinder or help you if you provide a list of other MBA programs you are looking into besides the one you are currently applying for?
I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.
Interested to hear how people learn project management. I have done PRINCE2 exam and read PMP materials, but I find these are too textbook theory based. Real life projects seem to be very different and a lot more complicated. I often do not know what needs to be done unless someone tells me. I believe you can learn these things on the job, but I am keen to expedite this with some books or courses. Are there any resources that are particularly helpful?
A lot of you have been talking about visa issues around H1B.. I’m a Canadian citizen planning to do an MBA in USA. Would those same issues also apply to me? I have no idea about current visa processes
How specific do you have to get with goals in essays? If i say - I would like to go do an MBA -> consulting -> lead X segment of Y company long term Should i explain where in company Y will i start after i exit consulting?
Thoughts on Prosci or SHRM-SCP certification? Which would be considered more valuable or highly regarded? Currently focused on Change Management but have a HR background (industry experience / area of study in college).
Recently completed recording a series of seven one-hour webinars, approved for credit by CFRE for both certification and continuing ed. Did some advertising on LinkedIn, no takers yet. I have some name recognition in the nonprofit development world, where quite a number of people do need these credits. Not sure what to try next. I also have a 25k word text that could accompany these webinars and serve as a desk reference, not quite ready for publication. Have not figured out distro.
Hello! I have a two part question: 1) is it worth it to obtain an SHRM specialty credential if I don’t have the broader SHRM certification? 2) has anyone gotten the People Analytics or Talent Acquistion credential? If so, how valuable was it from a learning perspective? Do you feel it significantly contributed to your knowledge in either area? Thank you!
Hi D&A 🐟, I’ve been thinking of doing a career pivot from cyber security to data science. My current role is very technical and have experience with Python, PowerShell, AWS (SAA cert), Azure (Security Engineer cert in progress), and a bunch of other cyber security related technical skills. I have experience doing basic data analysis but not at the level of a data scientist. What would you recommend I do to gain these data scientist skills? I think the end goal would be to transition from cybe
MBA worth it you went to T1 undergrad and don't want to switch industries? Additional context: 4 YOE at T2/T3 firm. Think an MBA could be useful since I don't have business/finance background and at some point want to move in house for an investment firm. If I were to get an MBA, it'd be state school (T50). Concerned if I don't go back now, I'll never go back.
Do Megafunds buy out the MBA sponsorship package for new hires that are attending Bschool as sponsored candidates?
Apple Anyone know the reputation of retail finance strategy and if it’s worth to jump from strategy consulting from big 4?
What are some good questions to ask in a screener interview for in-house positions? Are salary/benefits questions appropriate at this stage?
First time negotiating salary with multiple offers. I would appreciate if you can provide any advice on negotiation tactics. Do you disclose your other offers? Can they rescind their offer if I ask for higher compensation? I am trying not to come off as a newbie that they can lowball me
Any stories about how the independence policies at Big 4 have practically affected your personal finances? Would also love to hear how consulting business is affected by not overlapping audit clients
Interviewing for Director role at an unknown fed consulting firm with 80M in revenue/250 employees. What should I expect/negotiate as far as profit sharing, commission sharing for winning work?
I feel very conflicted about whether to jump into an EM consulting role from industry. My husband is older, has switched jobs to a role that pays significantly less to his previous one pre-lay offs. We have 1 baby and I think I want a second. We really need this jump in salary to make this work. Irrationally I’m afraid that by not seeing my daughter Mon-Thurs for a few years it will damage our relationship and we won’t be close. Can people give me some real perspective?
Why is there an overlap / inverse correlation between salary and designation? For example there are senior consultants making a lot more than managers, and managers making a lot more than SM.
Fishies, I need your help. I received an offer for $160k from guidehouse. I’m currently paid $133k at EY. I don’t particularly love my practice as it is testing and the new practice with guidehouse would be IT strategy. EY has gotten me comfortable with the reimbursement for fitness, phone and internet and the promises from Kelly Grier of “really good bonuses and raises” this year. What would you do?
My firm recently removed the CPA requirement to make manager in FDD stating that it is following the market. Being a CPA is definitely better than not being one but will it hurt my exit opportunities if I decide to not pursue my license? Do companies outside of public accounting even care that much about having your license / are others seeing this same trend?
So how do you feel the consulting life is impacting your wellness as you hop over the age of 40, I’m finding under Covid I’m much more healthy/lost weight etc.

Hi PwC fishes, I am currently working in cloud and infra presales in an IT company. Wanted to movie into PwC but not in IT DUE DILIGENCE roles. Can anybody guide on what is the tech startegy role and deal advisory roles that are listed on the site. Have tried applying but I heard that only referrals work. Thanks in advance
What are the potential benefits of working at a deals oriented firm (e.g., LEK, S& Deals, EY-P) as compared to the more traditional Big 4 MC type roles at the post-M level? Really struggling with putting in the hours for the deals centric role as I’m not 100% sure of the longer term payoff (besides short term slight bump in comp).
