If I start searching for new job, will that HR ask about recent offer letter? Or only salary slips are enough?

Do not risk it with a company with 0 green card experience, especially if they won’t put it in writing. EY will have the resources to get it done on time and if not they can transfer you out for a year and bring back on L1.

Unless the new place can put in writing that they will initiate GC day 1, there is no discussion here.
If EY is ready to do your GC just stay back instead of going to a company that’s not experienced with the GC process. Also, you should not be going to a small company in this economic situation because of layoffs.

GC process is normally around 2-3 years. If you can counter with GC, then stay. Nothing is important than GC. I stayed with my old firm with low pay for 3 years to get GC done. Now I’m free to anywhere I like without being worried about whether or not they will sponsor.
OP- Guess this is not true. I have seen a lot of us non-managers initiating GC process. Also, if you network well, EY could support you in moving to another country while your GC process is in progress. Fight hard through your partner and counselor to include GC initiation in next set of applications from EY. FWIW, My application started when I’m S3 and now in PERM stage . Process till now took around 1.5 years
Should I leave and risk the GC with a smaller company with 0 experience with GC and like 4 H1B transfers - or ask EY to counter with GC and X% raise in comp?
Honestly want to leave EY, not particularly happy here and I feel jaded they wouldn’t do my GC before because it was outside of policy.
But the new company, work wise wouldn’t be something super interesting, but workload would be more chill and it would be a pay bump if I break it down to salary/hour rate. But the GC piece is pretty important to me.
More than this being outside policy - it’s to your benefit if you have five years of exp and are at manager level for the green card process - faster process.

2 yrs is not enough with a new company and mostly not enough even with EY - better start asking for the counter offer and get the perm process initiated immediately cause EY takes lot of time and it will be neck to neck with your 6 years!

Stay back and get it done.. upside is more after getting the I140 (or GC if ROW) but if you don’t care about GC then you can just swing it for upside in shorter term
