M3 (non strategy and non MBA) @ 200k in HCOL is actually over paid, especially before we hit current market where firms are paying premiums to poach talent. As a data point, the PwC M3 salary in HCOL is ~160.

OP is overpaid by all accounts.
OP is convinced they are “quite underpaid” based upon looking at other posts, which may or may not be true.
As toxic as many firms may be, fb is FAR more toxic.

200k base salary with 9 yoe isn’t underpaid at a big 4. Sounds about right. It’s very high for a b4 manager who isn’t SM/Director actually.
Obviously will pay less than the tier 1 strategy firms, but you can’t expect that.
Agreed. $200k is market at Big 4. I’d even venture that you’re in a HCOL area.

I left EY as an M2 in business consulting in NYC making 126k with 8 YOE. I don’t think you’re paid appropriately
Sounds about right. Don’t think you’re underpaid, you also have other components to your comp (performance bonus, 401K match etc). For reference, I’m starting @ Accenture as a M3 @ $190K …but I did get a solid solid solid sign on bonus

Dude you should be at $250k, you are severely underpaid. Do your partner know that you actually do super high value work like PMO, making things confusing, making simple things complex, proving clear answer to probLems by saying it depends or let me get back to you? I mean advisory obviously is high pay work…. Maybe call Sundar Puchai or Satya to explore roles as google or MSFT?

What offering are you in? I was at EY when they shifted all of advisory to “Business Consulting” and you had advisory staff saying they were in Consulting…As far as we know you could be doing internal audit which falls under Business Consulting at EY.

Correct. The comp is not for free. Regardless, turnover is high is strategy. Long hours, stress, unrealistic demands, always short staffed, burnout, etc. I would take a slightly lower comp for more WLB any day! I might even have time for a side hustle where I end up making more TC from multiple income streams.

You have to compare with big 4 peers. You can’t compare with much else.
Is $170k decent for an M2 at EY in business consulting (very HCOL area). I think I have the opportunity to negotiate, but wondering if I should.

What did you end up negotiating? I have an offer as an M3 in business consulting for 175k (HCOl). I asked for 190k initially.
