I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

I would like to know about the client interviews (especially in data science or machine learning roles).
Are these interviews tough?
Are these interviews meant to assess technical knowledge? For example, what is binomial distribution, what are different data structures in python, ml algorithms etc.
I would request each of the nagarrians to share their thoughts irrespective of the technologies you are working.

Absolutely fine - ideally I stay ahead of it by making sure we’re talking career goals, so I can put them in the best place to achieve what they want. It sucks when you’re the last to find out but I don’t want people to feel they are forced to be on my team
It also makes it easier to hire internally if you’re supporting/encouraging it - people want to work on a team where they feel supported, encouraged and have a chance to grow.
Honestly, I truly want what’s best for my reports. Their happiness is #1 and if transferring will do that, I will support it 100%
I would hope I would know about it beforehand or even encouraged it, but will always support it
