Many Americans earn good incomes yet still feel financially stretched. The best investors I’ve known aren’t the ones driving the newest car or constantly upgrading their lifestyle—they’re often the ones who quietly live below their means and invest the difference.

Why do you think it’s become so easy to live above our means today? Is it lifestyle inflation, easy credit, social media comparisons, or something else? And what habits have you seen help people avoid that trap?

Partners - Do you ever take vacations?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I can't tell if it's standard for big law partners to not take time off, if the dynamics for my group may be different (only 1 partner in the entire group), or it the partner I work with is just a masochist.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

The left is the Prius driver in the far left lane going 55 mph on a multi-lane highway holding up multiple drivers and causing traffic (making things worse for everyone else).

The right is none of the above, wants everyone to succeed, and get to where they need to go.
