I joined BT as an experienced hire from a local firm. Honestly, BT has been very good to me. By and large, I like the people I work with. Their response to the pandemic has been pretty good. I suspect this is common in public accounting, but we’ve had turnover and there’s the feeling our jobs are understaffed.
It’s good. Compared to Big 4 you get as much responsibility as you want as early on in your career as you want. Only down side is, there is a ceiling to how fast you can get promoted. For example, I interned and that year of experience didn’t “count” even though I never had any lag time between interning and starting full time. So I’m on my 3rd busy season and taking on the same responsibility as my peers who started at the same time as me but in a “full time” position and were promoted to senior this year.. just by a technicality I did not get that same promotion because I wasn’t eligible. All in all though, it’s a more personal feel, lots of interaction with the clients and tons of opportunity. Many things though are going to be the same. It’s still public accounting.
Former BT and now BDO ... it really depends on the team and the office in my opinion. I do miss the people and the health benefit
