Middle of your 4th year are you supposed to feel like you still don’t know enough and stress about mistakes and feel overwhelmed all the time? Just curious, honest feedback is helpful.

I’m a 4th year. I don’t know if I’m supposed to feel like that, but I often do. I am sure that many people senior to me feel that way too.

Yes.

Yeah I’m five years in and every day since the beginning I’ve been acting like I belong until somebody notices I’m panicking below the surface. I sure hope it’s normal.

Same year, and yes.

PSA - We are headed into a self-imposed economic slow down. Now is not the time to lateral but if you do, I would make sure you are at a recession-proof practice or firm. The top law firms will be okay (they always are) but if you are part of a larger group of associates with no work, you are likely to be axed. Latham did it in the 2008 and 2011 and it will happen again. If you are an associate or really anyone but a rainmaker, you are expendable.
