I absolutely detest Mercerdes’ tech as of late. My dad has the new S class and it’s nothing but trouble.
I dunno. I just find most cars today uninspiring. And for me, this fits into that box.
Not sure if it was the end goal all along, but giving the award to an E Class would surely generate conversations and draw some eyeballs, which would give a boost to their viewership for the time being.
Personally I don’t really care. The best selling cars or the most awarded cars are usually not what I would go for anyway.
I read Car and Driver as a subscriber. Do people still read MT? I basically see them as paid ads
I test drove the E450 and found it to be a very smooth ride. The interior fit and finish was wonderful - minus some cheap lower door finishes - but it was comfortable and fit the definition of understated luxury. The tech is relatively unobtrusive but I don’t like the Haptic Touch button controls.
I compared this to the BMW 5 series (also test drive) and find the ride quality in the MB better, but the driving dynamics of the BMW are far better than the MB. That said, the BMW interior is uninspiring and the ambient lighting is too gaudy for my taste - which is why I wouldn’t consider it. The pricing is better than the MB but it doesn’t satisfy the soul…
I’m in the market for a new car and have always wanted a MB, but can’t bring myself to pay almost $90k for a decked out E450 - as nice as it may be. I could wait for a year or so and get t used model but would likely not have all the bells and whistles I want… massive first world issues. 🤨
I’ve always respected Mercedes, but my vote might lean toward something more innovative than the E-Class.
I respect Robb Report’s COTY much more than MT’s.
I've got a coupe with the old non-hybrid turbo 6, I'd be interested to see how the electric motor changes the experience.
My main gripe with this pick is that at over $70k for the 4-cylinder variant, this isn't an attainable car for most readers, at least not until the significant depreciation hits.
i am a mercedes guy but something about the newest gen design language doesn’t speak to me. the massive snout is a bit much- almost heading in the direction of the large BMW kidney grills/ nostrils. i know it’s needed for the sensors and tech, but i wish there was a better way
