Make it fun again. They’re too young for “ownership”. It has to be something they mostly enjoy, then they work harder.
Have you tried team activities vs individual performance?
I think 7 is a very young age to be worrying about laziness and pride in work. My advice would be to worry less about it, have fun, reward when they do great things as positive reinforcement and don’t call them out or punish for being lazy.
My 7 year old acts in a similar way. But she chooses to be lazy, she is smart in her class and creativity but gets bored soon and easy.
So we had her do activities that challenge her, she goes to a Jiu Jitsu class now, joined back her swim lessons and likes to be given a challenge like how quickly she can solve simple match problems, do cleanup after playing and if she can teach her younger sister. I have seen a change in her behavior but is the bored and lazy behavior totally gone - no, she still defaults to it but the occurrences have significantly decreased. I hope with time the good traits will overcome the bored behavior
Sounds like it just doesn’t interest them. Kids aren’t truly lazy just they need stuff they find interesting or fun.
