10 is more then I've ever had.. If you only used 2-3 it sounds like you're making out on the deal. Use em or lose em, unlimited just meant you felt chained. Don't forget, mental health is just as important as physical health. Need a day to get over it? Call out.. Now you don't feel bad.
I get 7 sick days and I make sure to use them all, otherwise I will lose them
Whether is physical or mental.
Boo-hoo
10 sick days, assuming this is still separate from vacation, isn’t a bad number. However, going from unlimited to 10 is a bit of a shock. I’d probably be more inclined to take them because I’d still be able to save at least half for a serious instance.
Having never had unlimited i would think that people either abuse it or hardly use it. I bet not a lot of folks fall in the middle... Because what is the middle? Sounds like it was 10 days in this case, but OP was underutilized.
Anything longer then like 3 or 5 days you use short term disability, which you are paying for out of your check.
Hmm I think there are pros and cons to everything. However, I have heard unlimited PTO is a scam. People always said it was hard to get days off when they had it. I can also see where people might take advantage of unlimited sick time.
If you have never needed them-what difference does it make
If you have never needed, and never transferred them to someone who does, look at that possibility
By reducing an unused benefit and (likely) netting back value from those who might abuse, is the company able to control costs in other areas or support an ACTUAL (vs PERCEIVED) benefit you can or do use?
An example might be maintaining health care offerings without an increase
10 is more than enough. I get 7 ( in addition to vacation and holidays). If you’re sick for longer, you’d take short term disability or fmla leave etc.
Here at bread financial we get 72 hours of sick time. This has to last the full year. Plus we get our PTO front loaded for the first half the year starting on November 1st I think for you to start scheduling. Then middle Q2 we get our second half of PTO loaded for Q3 and Q4
You wouldn’t be able to use it all at once as they do half for Q1 and Q2. Then the second half Q3 and Q4 but then if you use it all then that’s on you.
Pro
10 sick days is a lot as far as I’m concerned.
