Many employer dental plans are fully paid by the participant anyway. So in theory, if all you need are cleanings then you probably are better off paying out of pocket and skipping the coverage.
However, if you are concerned you might need work performed (fillings, crowns, etc) then you might consider talking to your dental office about recommendations. They absolutely can help connect you with coverage providers.

I haven't ever worked for a place that didn't offer dental. However my very first job was a contracted role so there were no benefits. THat being said I contacted an insurance broker and she found me really good dental insurance that I paid for out of pocket and it was only like $24 a month.
