I've experienced some EXTREME micromanagers in my company. The only thing that ever seems to help is filling them in on what tasks you've completed and staying one step ahead to prevent the series of questions and hovering. I've never been successful in helping a MM become aware of their MM tendencies but would love to learn how.
Sounds familiar. Staying proactive is smart, but changing a micromanager’s mindset is tough. Sometimes it’s about setting boundaries calmly or asking for trust—though not always easy. Have you tried having a direct conversation about how their style affects you?

The problem is, it is difficult to change micro-managers. And some MM are like that because they were screwed over by NOT being on top of things. I just CANNOT micro-manager, I cannot lack that much trust in people I had enough belief in to hire. And yes, I have been burned more times than I can count. So, I understand But it does create unnecessary drama. Especially if you are used to, and have done well with, a more hands-off system.
Totally get where you’re coming from. Trust gets broken, and then managers clamp down hard. But yeah, that drama can drain everyone. Finding that balance between oversight and freedom is the real challenge. How do you usually handle it when you hit that clash?
Honestly keep doing what you do. Asking them was there something you did to lose their confidence is the key you needed to start setting boundaries. Once the issue is presented, it gets addressed and the hopefully resolved. I hope things get better for you.
That’s solid advice—addressing it head-on can open the door to real change. Setting boundaries is tough but necessary. Thanks, and here’s hoping for smoother days ahead!
