My manager is leaving soon and she’s probably the best I’ve ever had which makes me worried that the person who comes after her might be terrible. How do you deal with bad or micro managers?

Good boundaries is my best advice. You can't stop bad managers from being bad managers. But you can control how much it affects you. And who knows, your next manager might be amazing!

That’s true they could be great! I think it helps that we already have pretty well set rules and boundaries for the department which I think is good.

I think establishing your ability to communicate (and style of communication) as well as your independence upfront are all very important. If they don't initiate a conversation about expectations, I probably would.

Yeah that’s a good plan. Quickly getting them up to speed and showing we can do our work without them being there are good steps.

Setting boundaries is crucial, as is familiarizing yourself with their communication style. If you're able to understand how they work and think, it's easy to get ahead of any of the micromanaging tendencies. With that being said, try to go into this with an open mind. It's hard losing a good manager, but you should give their replacement a fair chance. Here's hoping they end up being just as good as the old one.

Yeah it was a surprise to hear she was leaving but I want to stay hopeful. I think my team and I have a good sense of communication and boundaries so it’ll be about keeping that up.

Have your agent help you get a manager!
There are many managers I won’t work with, and I’m assuming there are some managers out there that don’t wanna work with me so you need to be a bit aware of that.

In today’s world managers basically act as agents your best bet is somebody with very few clients not a manager that has a few big names because if they do have a few big names they’re focus is on those big names

I have had many bad managers and micromanagers in my day. To be honest I usually end up leaving because most of the time it doesn't get better. That is not to say that it can't get better, just that it usually doesn't.

Yeah it might be good to look at what’s out there just to be safe!

Put your pants on and suck it up. But why worry about it? You are automatically assuming that they will be terrible. Things happen to all of us. Learn how to deal with complicated situations.

I don’t think you should have to deal with something that bad, sure things are sometimes tough and that’s fine but what’s the point of willingly putting up with a shit situation? Seems incredibly counter intuitive.

Yes I think for the new manager coming in, have a clear mindset and no expectations as you never know what they would be like!

That’s true!! Good to keep your mind open!

It's a valid concern unfortunately. I've had this happen and eventually had to leave the company and a job I absolutely loved because of it. My only advice would be to do what I didn't do that I now wish I had, and that was to openly discuss my concerns early on, offer suggestions and ask what help them to improve the situation.
I made a ton of excuses for her (because it was very clear she didn't know what she was doing) and so I tried to anticipate her needs but in the end it only hurt me.
Give the new manager a chance initially because coming in and trying to gain respect straight away with a team that's already formed isn't easy, but if after a while you're feeling like something isn't working then do address it.
Also, you may love the new manager too! So try not to worry or give 'hostile' vibes when they arrive.

That sucks! Yeah I think it will be about getting that relationship started immediately and showing that we’re more than capable!

Brush up your resume.

Always a good idea!

Who is still in denial about a housing correction? The Fed just made another .75% increase. Powell said they won’t stop until inflation is 2%. He also said a recession would be better than the consequences of unchecked inflation. He announced he will bring rates to a “restrictive level” until “the job is done”. He said that labor demand needs to soften (ie: layoffs). He very explicitly said he wants to slash demand and that housing needs a “correction”.

Scores consider the number of accounts that are paid as agreed. Your score was impacted because the number of these accounts is too low, or because you've missed payments recently on some of your accounts.

I once asked a colleague at a radio company how much he's paid monthly, and he outright refused to tell me. In fact, he found it very odd that I asked. I later learned that he was making double my salary. I know it's not an employee's job to fix pay inequity by sharing their salary figures, but I'm still of the opinion that it helps uncover pay gaps. But do you think it's wise to do so at the risk of damaging your work environment or the whole thing backfiring on you? Thoughts are welcome.
