Hi fishes, My interview with Microsoft for SE2 was scheduled and cancelled a day before. Neither I received any email regarding cancellation nor the recruiter informed me. Two days later I got an email saying Microsoft is freezing hiring for certain departments and the recruiter is ghosting me. Will I even get a chance to interview atleast?

All depends how badly you need the job. If the need is high, you have no leg to stand on. If the need is anything lower than that, there are a number of things you can do. A) get another offer and use it as leverage B) ask to get on the phone to ask a couple more questions about the role. Once on the phone, ask candidly what circumstances are delaying the hire. Maybe they were waiting for a new client to sign an SOW. Maybe they’re trying to legally remove the team you’re replacing. Or maybe there’s no good reason at all and this is indicative of the dysfunction of the company. And if they won’t get on the phone with you - it’s pretty obvious there’s dysfunction already. C) sell some great work at your current company and politely tell the new place that you have to put the new job on hold while you produce the new, exciting thing. That will make them want you more
the CEO. She basically offered us the job after Thanksgiving, but said she had to get the job posted first and have the CFO go over things. It’s now mid-January. And she said she would be telling us our start dates and salary on Monday. Didn’t hear anything. We reached out Tuesday again, and still nothing. I feel like we are being strung along and I honestly can’t take this any longer. I need to know if this is actually going to happen. I don’t have time to sit around and wait. How can approach this without sounding too needy or upset with the situation?
Any position not approved by the CFO is not real. It’s a nice to have and “we’re trying” to bring on you on board. Getting a CFO to move is a process and evaluation of the company’s profitability. So that being said it takes time. Wait it out. If you interviewed well they are not going to forget about you so constantly touching base is worthless and can damage the relationship. Time is a weapon. Be chill and it will come to you if they can get the CFO to move. They might have to make room/ “fire” some peeps to make headspace. And if they fail to get CFO to move...you won’t hear from them. Nobody calls up potential hires and says “hey we f’d up and can’t get the money.” So calling them too much will only remind them of their failure and sour things. I strongly suggest always asking if the role is approved/funded by the CFO before interviewing in the future. Ive learned that lesson the hard way like you are now, sorry. Also tell a company you’re talking to a few agencies...even if you aren’t...bringing in a late “offer” after the interview makes you look less interested and feels a little used car salesmen. Let them know upfront you're talking to others....but this place is where I want to be. It’s called positive pressure. Use it👍.
How long have you been waiting since your last contact with her?
Can't you be straight with the recruiter? Make them find out what is happening. That's part of their job.
