My wife and I are looking for a local nanny share. Due to the nature of the other couple’s work in the GOV, they want to ensure it’s payroll and not cash under table for the year contract. That sole point is turning away amazingly fit Nannie’s we’ve interviewed as apparently the cultural norm is to commit tax fraud. I’d get it if it were for a summer, but this is a year contract including PTO and holidays coming to roughly ~$25K annual.

Anyone deal with this before? Or know of a solution?

Pay more. Had to cover nanny’s payroll taxes and ours.

Agree partially. We had ours pay her share of taxes, SS, Medicare, and then we paid our matching portion. It worked out because she knew that based on her income she would see most of all back at the end of the year and gain benefits from being able to show income over time.

The reality is that we maybe lucked out, and the simple solution is to gross up a bit to close the gap partially or fully.

I got lucky and found a young responsible Nanny. I could only afford $17/hr at the time but she was happy to take it. I had to technically register my own business to get a EIN so I could make her a W-2 employee. It was frustrating because my post tax dollars were getting taxed yet again and of course she paid taxes too but it worked out better for her in the end because she had proof of employment when it came to applying for rent.

At those rates, they probably feel it necessary to commit tax fraud in order to pay their bills. I hate to say it, but pay more and you're likely to find ones more willing to pay taxes.

You guys should look into the Au pair route if you have space to host someone. We went from nanny share to Au pair + daycare and have been happy.

25k annual for a nanny to watch at 2 kids?! Where do you live?!

DC. And Yes, that’s split between two families - one kid per (hence the share).

Echo what others are saying of paying more — child care crisis is real. We are in Western North Carolina, have our 1 kid in nanny share with one other kid. Pay around $18/hour for our portion above table. Had a part time nanny before paying $25-30/hour.

In DC and hit that wall trying to pay $25-27 an hour through payroll. Like everyone said, you just have to pay more. Around here that’s like $35+ an hour. Most friends pay $27-30 under the table for the best Nannie’s.

Currently scheduling “on sites” for a S&O role in CA. My referrer said they can hire as L5 or L6. Would like to land in the L6 bucket as I’ve heard 5 --> 6 is one of the more challenging promotions.

I’m looking for info on what the real difference is in responsibilities (manager vs IC, cross functional vs focused, etc) so I can focus on checking the L6 boxes during my interviews.

I’m also curious about whether this is something that I should just discuss with my recruiter directly?

Currently 25 y/o making 70k/year in Boston. I grew up pretty poor and I have minimal financial education. A lot of my salary now goes towards helping my parents get out of debt. My parents are no longer able to live on their own, so considering selling my grandmas house where they live (maybe 550k), paying off their mortgage (100k) and buying a duplex (between them they make about 55k/year). Is buying a two family home a good investment ? How much can I afford to spend on a new house?

For any real estate investors

22 years old and currently focused on using my left over income to invest and pay off my debt. I am set to pay off my college loans by next year and, when I do, I want to look into investing into real estate. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get into/learn more about real estate investing? Or how I can have enough knowledge on the topic to be able to invest wisely when the time comes?

Any books? youtubers? etc. How did you all learn about it?

I'm at a point where the salary I'm getting is disrespectfully low for all the work I do. Should I ask for a raise? And if so, how do I go about asking without sounding greedy.
