My wife and I constantly argue about my working hours.. I work regular corporate hours and I do not work on weekends. My wife believes that I am inefficient in my job and she does not believe what the workload of Strategy Partners at mid-sized firms actually is. Could you all give me a sense checking of how many hours you work and advice for managing my wife’s expectations for what is acceptable?

If that’s the type of inquisition I was going through upon my return from work, I’d happily throw in an extra few hours every day and weekend to escape it 🤷🏼

Wait til she’s asleep to get home. Or “travel” during the week and just stay somewhere else.

Was doing 65hrs until I realized promotions and pay were unrelated, despite my working 2 levels up and working smart. So I scaled back to 40-45hrs a week, used the extra time to work out and build strength, lost weight, get regular and preventative healthcare, changed bad habits for good ones, networked outside consulting and my domain, spend more family time, took care of supporting my family when they need me, increased frequency of date nights and day trips with wife, more trips (was hardly taking vacation), took on wing foiling, joined a local group of friends, do guys trip. Those 20 hours a week made an enormous difference in life quality.
One kid out of the house so wife took on an activity, so she is less on my back and I’m less on hers.

I’m 45 - 50 average / week. Really try hard to be efficient during the day and carve an hour out at night / on weekends for catch up and to make sure nothing is bottlenecked.

Dude, this sounds like an unhealthy relationship! Honestly, are you ok? I do 40-50 max, hardly ever on weekends. I’m having a 200% year. Some folks will do less hours and more, others the opposite.

It sounds to me like there’s more goin on here. Anyway, why should she care? Seek help before too long. The fact you’ve articulated it here means you’re concerned enough to ask total strangers for advice. Go get some professional advice.

And good luck!! ❤️

I work around 45-50 a week and travel every other week

I understand we all make our own choices. Regardless, I think the people on here working 60-80 hours a week are crazy. It’s just no way to live life and blaming ‘the job’ is just an abdication of responsibility.

I stopped contributing to my 401K for the last three months in order to pay off credit card debt. I am 28 and have about 68K in my 401K. Was this a smart decision? I want to get out of debt as quickly as possible and I have no student loans or car debt.

Yet another friend/colleague got engaged this weekend. It’s become impossible to celebrate people’s relationships. I’m a POC woman and I’ve been single since coming to the US 10 yrs ago. A handful of men have been interested but they were not Christian or back in my country. So many childless, single women in my church and I’m terrified I’ll be them soon. My non-Christian family doesn’t understand why I’ll only date Christians, or the dating scene in big cities, so they put pressure on me

Just found out that my favorite aunt, who claimed I was her “favorite” niece, chose to leave all her valuables to her other two nieces who never visited or called her once in the last ten years. My aunt passed away suffering from cancer last year and didn’t have her own kids. I was there by her side throughout her battle. I still wish I had done more, made her life easier. I probably sound petty, but a part of me is forcing me to re-evaluate every interaction I ever had with her.

Hi, I'm an employee at a hotel chain who works remotely. I've been working remotely for over a year now and I love it! The company I work for is very supportive of remote workers, which is great.

But there's one thing that's been bothering me: it's hard to get feedback on my work when I'm not in the office. It would be great if there was some kind of system that let me know how my performance was being evaluated while I'm working on projects from home.

Can I leave my biglaw job 3 months before my COA clerkship? Not sure if it will look bad or like I have a gap in my resume. I’m going on 2 years at my firm and I can’t stand it.
