Bain & Company Hi all, I am interested in making the move to the Middle East, however starting from august/September. What do you think are the prospects for the future in the region? Do you envisage a hiring freeze or are companies still going strong? Thanks!McKinsey & Company Boston Consulting Group Kearney Bain & Company

Accountant to consultant here. I think it depends a bit on the type of consulting she is looking to break into, but in my own personal experience I found Tableau to be very helpful as well as learning SQL. I went from audit to strategy & analytics FWIW.
Do you mind sharing your journey from accountant to consultant?
Lol. I am also doing AWS certification and have already done some that she is targeting. But, these are all different types of certification - cloud, data, sfdc, etc. Also, just doing one of this certification will not make her eligible for consulting. Does she want to get into an entry level position? If its entry level then perhaps look at entry level JD and check what’s being asked. I think data analytics will be easy path. You can build a story with data aided by this certification courses. If its a data analytics certification then select one which has projects. For salesforce , you can check with SFDC folks. Don’t let get get into technology administration ( database administration, or salesforce administration) type of work. She will soon not like it.
Amen!
Sorry, you're getting a lot of bad advice here. You mentioned she's interested in strategy consulting therefor none of these are relevant. We do not care about certifications, period. You've also mentioned systems (and recruiters asking about systems), which is in no way strategy consulting but may find some of these useful.
Bain2 is correct. It was a consulting role at both.
These are all over the place, where does she wants to specialize.
Pro
Big 4 accounting vs big 4 consulting is very different
If she wants to move to strategy consulting the time tested route is M7 MBA.
Came to say this. Seeing as she already has an MBA though, is it good enough to leverage direct? An MBA with years of accounting could go in deals/transactions strategy
The agile and project management ones are good if she wants do to that type of work. SPC, PMP, CSM, CSPO. I’ve never consulted before got the SPC one and everyone thinks I’m an scaled agile expert.
Deloitte 1, that’s great to hear. I’ll pass these recommendations along to her.
What type of consulting does she want to do? These are all very marginal for MBB compared to her previous experience and how she frames it.
These certificates look more fit for technical consulting roles.
She wants to work in business process improvement/project management. She was a project manager at a tech company for 1.5 years before she joined Big 4 and wants a similar experience.
Pro
Not being facetious, but has she actually spoken to anyone that does strategy consulting? A lot of folks without direct consulting experience thinking it sounds cool without really knowing what it’s about.
I have done multiple financial transformations and accounting functional knowledge is a pre-requisite. Look up CFO & EV within Accenture. Also Zbx will be pure strategy roles. Within ZBX, given her accounting background, Zero Based Spend will be a perfect fit.
DM me if you need names or where to look up within portal if you need some ideas
Hi Accenture 1- since you have done some financial transformations perhaps you can provide your insights. I am in accounting for 4 years but not a fan of it. I am willing to switch to either FP&A or project management or finance transformation. Just looking for people's perspectives before deciding anything. Can you share your thoughts?
Pro
I’d pick one/two of those areas and maybe some agile/safe training to compliment for project management
She might want to start by looking in Advisory positions at Deloitte or other firms. It’s a natural switch to go from accounting to Advisory, build your consulting skills and experience and then switch to a traditional consulting position.
@D2 How did you move from Deloitte Advisory to S&A? I am currently in Advisory.
Ive done this by moving to accounting innovation then business tech strategy. No certs or training
There's consulting positions @ Cerner if she wants to do health care consulting.
I would get the CISA
