Why don’t you look for a new job? Serious suggestion. There are tons of places hiring
Valid question. I do like my job and see a lot of growth at the company, I’m only 3.5 years out of college so I think I’m a little intimidated applying for higher level roles with less experience
I think it's worth having active conversations around the topic - even if the promo cycle is a long ways away. If you consistently make your case, they're either going to try to meet you halfway (they really should be trying to retain you at this point) or they'll at least know that you're persistent and take it more seriously. In any case, I would still apply for other stuff - even if you're intimidated! It's just an application and if it goes well, you have leverage and even if not...well, no one has to know haha!
Trust me, I've been in the same boat. I took a job that I knew was underpaid because I just didn't have an option at the time. It makes you feel really crappy and trapped when you don't feel like you're progressing. I kept applying here and there throughout out though, and eventually a better offer did come through so you just have to have faith!
I did the same. I’ve been told not to expect a a pay rise until after the next funding round which will be 18 months after I joined. I’ve seen my responsibilities increase a lot even after 6 months. Not sure what I should do
Same boat. Super frustrating to say the least.. I’m going to have another serious talk with my manager and start applying elsewhere in the meantime
Not to mention I manage just as many projects (if not more) than my direct manager and new manager on my team they just hired. I’m actually training the new manager. To make things worse the cost of living sky rocketed where I live, so I’m still living at my parents place because I can’t afford the rent near me and move out. I feel so underpaid but don’t know if I have a leg to stand on :/
You won’t get a random pay bump outside a review cycle - I was in the same position. I did make a strong case to my manager about my role and pay so now I’m getting immediately promoted in the upcoming cycle.

Good for you for having the promotion conversation and happy for you on the promotion expectation for next cycle!
How often are your review cycles? If it’s annual, it’s not uncommon to get an off-cycle compensation increase or promotion. Also retention based compensation increase by definition happens off cycle (they need to react to the offer you have).

Interview and get a competing offer, then use that offer to get a retention-based pay increase or more equity. While promotion/performance raises happen on a cycle, retention based compensation changes are also standard/common in tech. If you believe you are getting feedback that you are doing a great job (ie training the new manager and getting a ton of new responsibility), company recognizes you are worth keeping. You need to give them a reason to believe you are leaving to get them to react off cycle.

The convo goes “I really don’t want to leave but this offer is basically double what I’m being paid here”.
