If you were at director level looking at partner, D to McK might be a tough choice. Rebuilding a network is hard.
At SC level, it’s a no brainer, unless you have your heart set on partner at D go to McK.
My bad! Sorry P1!
The long term play would be to take the Mck role
Agreed! Wanted perspective and appreciate everyone pitching in!
Now for the real question, how do you land an interview as a generalist?
Small step down in terms of title but pay, perks, opportunities are a step up!
First score the offer, then ask
Good luck, let us know when you get it
I was in VERY similar position. I was a SC at a diff consulting firm, and was literally 3 months away from a promotion to Manager. Had around ~7-8 YOE at that point. Ended up taking a sr analyst position at McK, which has a lower overall comp than what I would have made as Manager, but longer term trajectory comp wise will be better at Mck, at similar levels.
You can find sr analysts within generalist/integrative path as well. Overall, It sounds like Yiu e already made up your mind. I will say, at this time I wish I would have stuck it out for a bit just to have that manager title before jumping because EM at mck is not guaranteed in any sense and I think having direct management experience would lead to better exit opps
I would do McK if I were you
Not a step down.
McK generalist is better than a SC at D. It is technically a step down BUT McK is the best firm IMO. Now if you’re getting into specialist track, only the brand is better but not the work.
