This sounds like the mentality that society and my parents/relatives conditioned me, my brothers, cousins, etc to have until we realized we needed to stop competing against each other. Things I’d hear directed at me or others around me were: your cousin has a 4.0 GPA, why don’t you; your cousin is thin and pretty, why aren’t you, your sister is smart and going to a university, why aren’t you. When we became adults, it became a competition about highest salary, most expensive car, biggest house, etc. I think at some point you need to realize you gotta break out of the mindset of competing with everyone because someone else will always have something bigger and better than yours and you’re going to tire yourself out. You should look to improve yourself and compete with the you from yesterday. How can you be healthier or stronger or do better from the past you? If it’s work related, see if you can increase productivity, decrease time to complete tasks, set goals for promotion. Whatever it is, see where you’ll end up from the you of today vs you in 3 months or 1 year. Everyone is on a different part of their life journey so it’s not reasonable to compete with them forever and you might burn yourself out. Hope that helps.
Very good outlook. Honestly, I am on the same page as well and I do fully agree. But I have been conditioned to get most out of me from competition feeling from my childhood. I am planning to choose my next role more wisely to make sure my boss is interested to challenge me, and there is a competetive and smart guys around. Working on myself is also a way, but I want combination of both 😊
In your potential in what? Looking for new jobs? Being better in your current job?
