I have an upcoming interview with a hiring manager at Morgan Stanley for the role of an analyst for one of the teams in their Institutional Securities group. Does anybody have advice on how I can prepare and the kind of questions to expect? I’ve never done an interview as a lateral hire and wonder if it’s more technical than behavioral

I feel ya! After two interviews with a company, I was given a take home assignment. So last week I spent two whole days trying to get it done by the deadline they gave me. And after I sent it over, complete silence.
Not even an acknowledgement that they received the assignment. It genuinely pisses me off. Like how hard is it to send back an email saying “thanks, we’ll review it and get back to you in a week or so”…now I’m slightly anxious and paranoid that they made me do free work for them. It’s so incredibly rude of them and a complete waste of my time.
I mean, I get it, there are probably a shit ton of people who applied for the job. And maybe dozens of candidates are being interviewed. But if I get to a point where I spent over 1-2 hours interviewing with your company, then at least have the courtesy to spend a minute telling me I was rejected or the position was already filled so I know to move on.
Oh well. You’re right though these things happen for “a reason”, who knows what those reasons are. Companies with poor communications are probably ones to avoid anyways!
Ugh sorry to hear that. That’s so ridiculous. They have to realize how much energy, effort & time we put into preparing for interviews. Plus the stress and anxiety leading up to them. It’s just disrespectful for them not not even acknowledge or update. I get that they’re busy but it takes a few minutes to send a simple email.
This keeps happening to me as well. I just remind myself there may be nothing wrong with me and that they could just be using me to fill their quotas. Its an annoying but true part of the job search process. Have to hear a lot of nos/waste time until you get the role you want.
That’s true. I guess part of the frustration is that I’ve historically been pretty successful in obtaining roles I’m qualified for and prepare for. But I’ve now had 3 situations where I’ve made it to second or third round interviews and then either been ghosted or turned down weeks after I was told I’d hear something. And these are all big companies so I’d expect a little more professionalism. But I guess that just means I need to find somewhere that will actually respect their candidates and employees time.
This has been happening to me and a couple of my friends too. I don't know why it seems to be happening more and more frequently but it is driving us all nuts.
