Don't do ORD! It's a busy airport and winter is coming, Chicago weather isn't going to be too great. I have had some terrible luck getting home to SFO from ORD.
Yeah. Downtown sucked for a long time and is just really hitting its stride with new stuff. Go for a run around Railroad Park. Some restaurants and coffee around there too. Regions Park for our minor league team is there too if you stay into baseball season. Lake view has a lot of bars and stuff too. More "dive bars" to me. Catch an Uber to Avondale sometime. Great brewery and restaurants- check out melt and saws for sure.
Yes I was trying to avoid ORD, but flights out of Birmingham are limited so I was considering it. Thanks for your input !
Eat a lot of freaking BBQ. It's literally amazing
IAH and ORD are almost equally as bad, but I would pick IAH if you're flying United.
For barbecue, go to Saw's, Dreamland (get banana pudding too), Full Moon, Jim N Nicks.
Places to eat: Saw's BBQ, Hot And Hot, Gianmarcos. You can thank me later
And air traffic control at ord is horrific
I'm guessing you're flying united? They're tiny at BHM, so you may have some crappy flight situations. Otherwise, it's a nice airport. They did a full renovation not long ago. Will your client be downtown?
Yep client it downtown so short uber to the airport.
AA goes through CLT if you're a one world person. CLT over ORD any day!
Wow, this is great ! Any hotel recommendations ? In downtown? We are at the courtyard uab for kickoff but was also looking at trying the Westin. Definitely want location over luxury as long as I get Spg or Marriott points of course 😉
Westin is great hotel, but location isn't great depending on where your client actually is.
No strong opinion on other hotels.
Now if they could just get classpass and I could eat as much bbq as I wanted. I appreciate the run recommendation!
Hotel: Westin or the Aloft in Homewood is a more neighborhoody area but hotel not as nice
Make it a firm sponsored dinner at Hot and Hot or Gianmarco's. haha
I currently fly there every week and have tried all SPG hotels. Westin is the best they have. Agreed on location. I have to uber to find a descent place to eat/drink. I fly delta and they have a lot of options.
El barrio and paramount bar are great places for dinner and drinks
Im staffed there till December. Westin downtown, easy Uber to the airport and client site downtown. No need to rent a car, I fly direct to Chicago (base city), small cute airport with literally no lines ever.
