Also new to this bowl and so encouraged to see other believers in the industry. Wishing this wasn’t anonymous!
My fiancé was let go from his job in August. Was applying for his dream job and unfortunately didn’t get it. Several weeks later, a recruiter approached him about a temp contracting consulting position with a great salary.
He has been at a crossroads trying to figure out his next career steps (he wants to move out of consulting), so we feel like God provided this temporary and flexible work arrangement to help provide financial peace while he does that.
Not exactly how we originally wanted God to answer this prayer, but we are trusting in him and opening our eyes to try to see what He wants to do in our lives through this period.
Amazing to hear! 🙏 Would be great to hear how/ where God leads your financé to his next adventure.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
Ok this is going to sound a bit lame. But everything that happens in life whether good or bad is God’s blessing whether or not you see it at the time. There have been many times where I’ve been rejected just to see how he was protecting me down the line. Example 1 years ago I wanted to work at a company and applied multiple times and prayed so hard to get that job but nothing. A year after that the same company reached out to me with a much larger offer than I initially was going to ask for. Long story short I worked at that company for 1 year and hated everything about it (the work the culture) COVID hit and I was let go. This time though I actually thanked God because I wanted to quit but was concerned about money. However now because I was let go I was able to collect unemployment quickly as I was the lucky first wave of unemployments coming in (my colleagues who got let go weeks later had delays and trouble getting unemployment) .I started applying to other jobs and everything was on freeze. But I was happy that my unemployment was able to carry me through with the extra pandemic pay etc. Anyway I started praying for a job where I would be happy and make money and out of the blue a company I dreamed of working for at the beginning of my career reached out with double my salary. Example 2 relationships and break ups. Every breakup I’ve had that resulted in someone breaking up with me has turned out to be a blessing. Although at the time it hurt and I couldn’t see it those breakups have either served as motivations for me to better myself or have protected me from emotional and physical harm as I would hear from people down the line about so and so. It’s really helped me truly understand the saying everything is in God’s plan or something like that. Now if I’m going through a tough time I thank him for w.e he is trying to protect me from and pray for his strength to help carry me through it. Currently I have been praying for a good Christian catholic man etc and have yet to be one date in the past year. As crazy as that sounds for me (who had atleast a date a week) I know he is protecting me from the wrong people.Sarah Young has a really good book series (Jesus calling, Jesus always and Jesus today) but the main one I’d suggest is called Jesus Calling. You can even get a pdf version of it online. It’s a daily verse read with a bit of an interpretation. It’s something I love to read each morning.
Thanks for sharing. These stories are a powerful reminder that we must Trust in God (in both good and bad times).
I am also reminded of two verses:
1 “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” Proverbs 16:9
2 ““That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?”
Matthew 6:25-27
God did something similar for me recently in terms of opening up doors to FAANG where I made it to the final, but then didn’t work out. I trust in His plan and will continue to lean on him for guidance.
““Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.”
Matthew 6:19-20
Yes! I help lead a Book Club at my current firm. We chose I Am Malala due to recent world events and our line of work. My colleagues and I had some insightful and humbling conversations about our faith. We discussed the following question:
Apart from your family, is there anything for which you would die?
Not cliche at all!! That’s the simplicity that Christ asks of us all - “even unto death.”
We shine through Him.
These stories are such an encouragement!
Grateful in the season
