Hi Google - I am requesting guidance!
I am prepping for my interview specifically GCA and open ended questions. I struggle to tell if the outcome should be talking through your process/steps (maybe for a question like - how would you go about determining program complexity) vs a specific solution such as create x new product, for x market by x date based on my assumptions. Is the desired outcome something I can clarify with the interviewer?

Whelp….got the email already. They were extremely impressed but given the current politics of the organization felt it was best to go with the “safer choice” of a guy who was previously in a CDO role. I appreciate the feedback and the humanity, but holy shit it stings.

That’s really helpful insight!
Unfortunately their intention is to put that guy in this VP role under the CIO. I’m trying not to think about it, but the “safe option” remark sounds a whole lot like the “safe option” to an organizational SLT composed 100% of 55+ year old men means another 55 year old man, not a 38 year old woman. According to the recruiter I checked more boxes in terms of desired and required qualifications, and got stellar feedback from stakeholder teams on both the engineering side and the business side.
I did a LinkedIn search for 1st and degree connections with “VP” and either “data,” “analytics”, or “AI” in their title. There were 300+ men and around 40 women— and that’s even being involved in several “women in data/technology” groups. It puts things into a lot of perspective.
Sorry…. I know I’m whining. I’m just so tired of getting to the final round and getting either “you’re overqualified” for a lateral, “you’re under qualified” for a step up, but no feedback (and I always ask). Or getting to the final and getting ghosted. Or getting to told I’d be getting an offer and then being told, “yeah…so there’s been some internal politics and they eliminated the role”, which happened twice. I’m exhausted from constantly being so close.
Alright…that was enough self pity. Time to shake it off…

Thank you for the good vibes, guys! The conversation went really well. This was with the hiring manager (CIO), after four previous rounds with stakeholders and peers. He did say that the recruiter will be in touch ASAP with “next steps and if there is anyone else I need to talk to,” which is hard to interpret…but it is what it is at this point.
Back to obsessively refreshing my email for a while 😂
