Not really points related but looking for opinions. I have the Amex Gold. Had held it for 7 years. Never had an issue paying the $250 AF.
It’s going up to $325 come Oct. few of the perks have changed including adding Dunkin, Resy.
I’ve managed to acquire 250k points with the Gold mainly from Restaurants and grocery shopping.
I like the idea of us in the points for an ANA trip to Japan one day.
Are people sticking with Gold or downgrading?
FWIW I already have
CSP & Business Cards

Im downgrading. I already don’t use the credits regularly and the new credits don’t change much for me.

It's a pretty terrible change for a lot of people. It's funny how Amex wants to be a premium card and plays this coupon book game. $7/month to... dunkin donuts??? And Resy is hit or miss depending on the city.

You can book ANA for pretty cheap via Virgin. You don't need an Amex for that.

Nobody likes a higher fee, but it was inevitable after 6 years and any of the complaints around higher annual fees is just being naive imo. I think a reintroduction of the travel credit would have been preferred (given the loopholes there), but a deepening of the partnership with Resy was fairly predictable and many (myself included) are glad that it came with tangible dollar value vs. arbitrary experience driven value.

Agree Dunkin credit is kind of random but if we’re being honest, people in the Northeast will easily get use of it and that’s a key customer base for Amex.

Add in Chase Sapphire refreshes being much worse, and Amex ends up looking ok here

Easy hold for me. The Resy credit won’t be difficult to max out, so if anything, I’m $25 ahead with the refresh.

1. Is there a downgrade option for Gold? The last I remember I was told there isn’t.
2. When do these changes go into effect for existing card holders? Right now or at a later time.
3. When does fee change? Upcoming anniversary

1. Could downgrade to a different Membership Rewards earning card (Green is one of those)
2. Changes are in effect right now
3. Fee changes at your next renewal date

ANA F is a worthy goal. One of the best flight experiences we’ve had.

It's a bad card for most people and now it is worse. Once you get the SUB I would downgrade or close it. Keep something like a BBP so you can still access transfer partners.

Wut? Easily the best card on the market still.

They’re heavily targeting the Eastern seaboard. If you live in DC or North you’re making money off the refresh.

I have a 25K loan from my MBA. I paid off 100k whole, after graduation. 3 years ago, I moved my loan from federal to private ( SOFI) account. I recently lost my job. Now, with a loss of pay , we are going to make less. Do you think I will be eligible for Loan forgiveness?

I’ve always avoided annuities but think this one from NY Life is interesting. It’s called a Variable Investment Fund and you can add an Investment Preservation Rider for a fee. The IPR guarantees your investment return will at least be the cash you put in.

Typical portfolio returns about 7.5% after all fees. The commission fee is 2%.

So you are attenuating some upside and paying a pretty hefty fee, but you are insuring agains the downside.
