Okay I need an honest opinion:

I went through an entire interview process for a role and wrote thank you notes to the 5 people who interviewed me. I asked questions in a few of my notes, but never...

Honestly I never really reply to people when they send thank you notes even when I love them and have told HR I think they are right for the role. I wouldn’t worry too much about that.

like

What are you guys talking about? If a candidate asks questions in an email or written you don’t answer?

If that’s your policy or process then let the candidate know.

I’ve always responded to questions even if candidate wasn’t the top or qualified.

like

Honestly I very rarely respond to a thank you note, even if we’re going to hire someone. I will try to answer questions if they’re asked (or refer to HR), but a lot of teams just have a policy of silence. I wouldn’t worry about it.

like

I don’t think I have ever received a reply to thank you. And I’ve gotten some of those jobs.

like

There's no such policy... just reply if you want to. I've replied to all my thank you notes, but I'm careful not to sound like they will most certainly get the job. My policy is Khan's golden rule.

I dislike the fact that most here think not replying to a candidate is "okay" or worse - a policy. I don't expect one, but does it hurt to respond?

like

Our HR has a very strict policy of only allowing them to correspond. If we slip with “looking forward to working “ and the we do not hire them, there can lawsuit implications

like

@freelance ever heard of "You're welcome"?

like

Received replies to my questions. Is that a bad sign? Or are people just busy and it slipped their mind?

like

Btw, if they don't respond now, expect them to not respond to your questions when you're hired. Reasons can be anything... but most likely one of the major ones is: you're not important enough.

I think of it this way: someday when I'm the CEO and I'm looking to hire the best CFO in the market, I'll be replying left and right... someday these executives and associates will be in a higher position, and I don't want them to remember an unpleasant experience with me.

like

I don’t think the OP was asking about the thank you but the questions in the thank you note.

So basically, do you answer questions from candidates?

like

SD1 that's rude to the candidate.

I try to write back to thank you emails just to be a nice guy (and everybody in advertising knows each other). Ive never heard of a policy about it either way, but clearly there are lots of different approaches.

I would be driven crazy by this too--any time 5 people do or dont do the same thing it sure seems like an indicator. Ugh good luck, this business sucks.

@CD2 I suppose there's some logic to that. Again, never heard of such a policy... and again, doesn't hurt to just say "it was a pleasant experience. All the best!"

The TY note IS the follow-up, it would be odd to reply to it. That's like, thank you....Oh, thank YOU for your thank you.....well thank You for thanking me for thanking you for my thank you. Then you're in some weird Japanese bowing contest. You did the courtesy note, now send your questions as a LinkedIn message.
