If you hate all three, you briefed them wrong.
CD1 is making sense.
Do you have a round to provide feedback to the one that you hate the least?

Either bad brief or expectations are not aligned with realities of time/money. You ain’t gonna get a Tom Kuntz with 50k

yes sir/ma’m. That has happened to me. When we had a bad brief or expectations were not aligned with realities. Had no time, had a weak pool to start with. Didn’t get good treatments back. Asked for revisions and pushed to somewhere decent. Never had it happen when time/money/brief were good. 😊
Do producer and EP know? Would talk to them and see what can be done.
Tell your CD/ECD that you don't like the options, then ask your producer to look up more director options.
Never had three I hated but have definitely been forced to go with one I didn’t like because of politics. Like the CCO vetoing or pushing their choice on us. It’s tough but you can make it work with a lot of guidance in the pre-pro and during production. The director won’t always appreciate it so keep your cool and be nice, while firmly maintaining your vision for the end result. And as the others have said, ask for tweaks, have conversations before making your decision.
Sometimes you have to dictate the idea if time is fleeting. It’s hard work for you and your creatives. Pick the director who is most open to ideas and what you want. You chose 3 based initially on their reels. So there’s that. It’s happened to me before. Great reels but bad treatments. And today, with the decrease overall in productions, 1 of the 3 (if not all) will play ball. Good luck.
The reels matter more. If you hate all the treatments and don’t have time for full revisions, pick the one whose work you like the best who seems the most amenable to working together on solutions during prep. Tell your producer they need to talk to the EP about making sure they’re collaborative, and if everyone is scared about that, ask if they can get a reference from someone who worked with them. Rep and/or EP can get you one.
