One of my colleagues can say a lot but most of it is completely incoherent and hard to understand their logic. Most people just nod along, not understanding. I respectfully call it out and ask them to explain more what they’re saying. Doing so has caused this person to label me as “difficult”. I don’t really care, but is it being “difficult” to ask someone to say more when they’re not making sense?

I love being called difficult. Usually by pompous douches. Try to throw me under the bus, I’ve papered this over so well you can’t even see the landmine you’re about to step on…

like

No you are being difficult, they just don't want to answer, those people like that only want you to always agree with them so they feel right.

Help me understand…… consultanting speak for I think you’re full of #@#….always hated when my husband tried to go down that rabbit hole at home.

like

Just don't do it all the time, let others ask if they don't understand now that you've led the way. Otherwise you will be seen as the problem and maybe even a bully.

like

Yes you are being difficult.

But that's a good thing. To say no, or to ask and engage is what everyone is paid to do.

Keep being (respectfully difficult) and keep asking those questions.

This really comes down to if you have enough cache to be the one doing the asking. Well, do you?

No, but if they are universally liked or have a relationship with senior management it may be best to nod with the rest and move on after they are done talking.

Do you do it front of other people? If possible, try to get clarification one on one before any group mtg

Currently maxed Roth 401k, Roth IRA, HSA, and ESPP at 23 YO, should I consider an after-tax conversion? I’ve read about back-door Roths but I’m still far below the income limit as an analyst. Definitely looking into early-ish retirement, should I just invest the rest in a regular brokerage account until I reach the income limit? Am I even allowed to do a conversion? Any advice is helpful :)

Currently a senior with 2.5 YOE(not including 7 months of internships). I want to apply to Pwc Senior Cyber Risk position, but the minimum YOE is 3. Is it worth my time applying for the role? Will I get eliminated off the bat due to YOE?

Hiya!

I'm looking at applying to MBB (Preferably BCG) for a summer internship this summer. I'm a first-gen Oxbridge student, and while I have little experience in consulting along the lines of MBB, I did work in the city last summer as an sustainability consultant.

I'm curious how important it is to have a referral etc and what you'd recommend for applications opening in jan. Any advice is super appreciated I don't have any connections to the industry but it's something im interested in.

I am currently a year from finishing my PhD and was looking at VC's as a career path because I like to do meta-analysis of different climate change techs. I networked with VCs and one of them was receptive but didn't have the budget currently for a full time hire. They said they'd be interested in working with me to do a research paper over the coming semester, and was wondering if I could leverage this into a full time offer?

Is a white paper with a VC going to be attractive on my CV?

Do you avoid going to shows and concerts that restrict use of electronics? I want to go to a comedy show during the week, but there's a disclaimer that they kick you out If you're checking phone/smart watch, etc. I'm also thinking of shows where they put your phone in one of those dumb locking bags
